Topic: Noun Phrase 

Definition

A. Noun : This refers to a name of a person, animal, place, things, or idea.. E.g Ali, book, cat.

B. Phrase : this is a group words that do not have a subject and a verb and cannot express a complete thought. 

E.g The man .   A big tree.   was in the car. 

                     Noun Phrase 

    A noun phrase is a group if words having a noun as the main word. It is modified by an article (a, the , an) or determiner. 

E.g The boy. (Noun phrase) 

The brave hunter ...

Several cheetah...

The plate with the food...

Now study this sentences below to identify the noun phrase (NP)  

1. The book is on the table. (Sentence) 

The book (noun phrase);  the table (noun p)

2. The man gave his wife a new wrist watch. 

The man (NP)  ; his wife (NP) 

3. The children of the poor widow are obedient and kind. (Sentence) 

The children of the poor widow (noun phrase). 

4. Amina is the innocent girl. (Sentence) 

The innocent girl ( noun phrase) .
