 Grammar Topic: Phrase    Phrase is a group of words without a subject and a verb combination. That is , any group of words that do not have a subject nor a verb is a phrase and cannot communicate a complete thought.  Examples 1. A blackboard 2. Beautiful peacock 3. Are sleeping 4. In the rain.    The above examples are phrases and are incomplete expressions which cannot be called sentences.            TYPES OF PHRASES  1.  Phonics  Topic: Primary Stress  A syllable is the smallest unit of a word that can be pronounced. E.g Pro-nun-CIA-tion ; ma-na-ger.     Stress refers to the syllable of  a word that is pronounced with the greatest force. The syllable with the loudest pronunciation is the primary Stress. The syllable usually takes an apostrophe (') in the dictionary or when written, it is in capital letter.  E.g Fan 'TAS tic  Examples  A. All monosyllabic words (1 word) are stressed. E.g 'go, 'bag, 'eye... B. Most bisyllabic words are stressed in the first syllable. E.g 'NE- phew, 'BIS -cuit, 'PEO ple. C.  LITERACY COMPOSITION Topic: Narrative Essay     Narrative Essay is a type of composition that tells a story. They are usually about stories of past events and are to be written in past tense.  The story can be fiction or nonfiction. It could be a place you visited, a wedding you attended, an accident you witnessed, a party, a journey, a festival or any event that has happened in the past.  A narrative essay is divided into 3 parts namely:  1. The introduction 2. The body  3. The conclusion    At the introduction, you state the title of the story, then you state how it all started . (Day, time, place...) .   In the body, you discuss every bit of the event. (The people and all the things that happened) .    At the end, you are to state how the story ended.  EXERCISE Think of an event that has happened in the past and write about it.  Note that it could be real or imaginative.  Start with a draft before the story....
